Ground Level Futurism: the community's vision of the future
WHO OWNS YOUR TOMORROW?
Popular culture portrays the future either as a bright bubbly technotopia (as depicted in the 5th Element) or as a polluted, depressing dystopia (as seen in Blade Runner, Wall-E), yet rarely are the everyday lives of the people who exist in these imagined outcomes discussed.
Last year, Artist Dirk Joseph (www.aziarts.com) joined Jason Harris to explore imagined futures from a community based perspective at Gallery 1448 in an exhibit entitled: 'Ground Level Futurism'. The exhibit ran from March 18th to March 30th, 2011.
Jason Harris is conducting interviews in the community as the basis for Ground Level Futurism and he is looking for more community members to add their voices to the the discussion. Here are some excerpts from the first series of interviews:
